I love the tradition this race has created in my life. I wouldn't imagine January without running for HOU!

Virtual Half Marthon Finish Line, Dallas, Texas

Pre Race

The Houston Marathon Expo was my very first race expo and still a classic part of the whole event for me to this day. I usually go on Saturday because that way I have time to check out all the vendors. For a few years, they had local artists design the medals so I got to meet them too at the expo! Houston is also notorious for inviting or having Meb run it or be around the culminating event so if you ever wanted to meet him just know he's always floating around the expo. You can eat some great food anywhere near the expo as well. The most unique Mediterranean grocery store Phonecia is within walking distance and a few miles away is the Montrose and Westheimer area to get your carbo-loading on! Also, don't forget to see one of the best murals in town Houston is Inspired made by Gonzo 247!

Race Day

The Aramco Houston Half Marathon is easily one of my favorite races of all time because I started my long-distance running journey with this race. The course truly highlights the best parts of Houston in such an iconic way. If you want a course that lets you take in all that is Houston without overdoing it for your first half marathon- this race is for you! The course is super flat, so if you are worried about hills, then all you have to worry about are the Buffalo Bayou rolling hills near the finish. You go through Washington Avenue, River Oaks, the Museum District,  Montrose, Buffalo Bayou, and downtown and see the city in such a beautiful and unique way. The race starts and finishes by the convention center with breakfast and an after-party waiting for you at the finish line. There's great crowd support and lots of treats along the way to keep you fueled and motivated!

Post Race

The post-race celebration can end up in so many places all over the city! The last in-person race I had I celebrated by going to the color factory and it was so much fun! Sporting your finisher's medal and shirt around is a tradition for me and I'm so glad I got to do it again this year even if It was virtual. The best part about running Houston is knowing the next race is just around the corner the next year. I'm looking forward to running the 50th Houston Marathon next year!
